Shoji screens are series of double hinged wood or bamboo framed upright flat panels, with window pane lattice work and translucent washi paper shades. The word "shoji" refers to the distinctive appearence as well as the subtle skills of preparing the materials and crafting them into window shades and shutters, movable wall panels, foldable shoji room dividers, and sliding interior and exterior doors used in "washitsu" constructed buildings.
